Why you need us

We can help you to meet and exceed your emissions obligations. As specialists we understand the technologies and can help you select the right route, simply and cost-effectively.

Diesel has long been the worldwide energy source of choice in road transportation and haulage, due to its high energy content, low cost, portability and reliability. Diesel engines are important because they provide more power and typically around 35% greater fuel efficiency than an equivalent petrol engine. However, while their CO2 ‘carbon footprint’ is also better, their Nitric Oxide / Dioxide (NOx) and diesel Particulate Matter (PM) emissions are not.

Low Emission Chart

The European Commission estimates that air pollution is responsible for more deaths each year than road accidents (over 300,000) and that its annual cost to the European Union is as much as 760 billion euros.

In response the EU set new air quality standards, mandating maximum permissible level of pollutants in the air and with focus on tackling road transport’s contribution to air pollution. In areas of high vehicle density that lead to “hot spots” of air pollution, tough regulations are coming into place in the form of Low Emission Zones (LEZs), with over 50 already either active or planned for cities across Europe.

London's Low Emission Zone, covering 607 sq. miles of the Greater London Area, is one of the largest.  Rolled out in 2008 and with new tougher phases coming into place in 2012, technology is needed to enable vehicle owners and operators to simply and cost-effectively retrofit existing emission control systems to meet this tough new legislation.

Clean Diesel Technologies Solutions

Developing products from our own Intellectual Property, Clean Diesel Technologies is a leading supplier of retrofit and original equipment systems that cost effectively meet demanding new Low Emission Zone legislation.

Our technologies and solutions meet the strict regulatory PM and NOx emission standards on new and old engines alike, allowing diesel engines to be used instead of petrol, without adversely impacting air quality. Importantly our solutions provide further energy efficiencies to reduce the carbon impact of all diesel applications.

  • Purifier™e4 Urban Filter Systems provide energy efficiencies and CO2 reductions of 5-12%* or more, depending on engine and application
  • Platinum Plus® fuel-borne catalysts provide energy efficiencies and CO2 reduction of 5-12%*
  • Clean Diesel provides low emission solutions for use with lower carbon alternative fuels (such as CNG and LPG) and renewable fuels, in addition to more efficient use of petroleum resources
  • Licensees of Clean Diesel’s EGR-SCR technology benefit from the combination of NOx reduction and energy efficiency
  • ARIS® airless return flow urea injection technologies facilitate the use of SCR, providing a 5-7% increase in fuel efficiency compared to EGR-equipped diesel engines

Technology Development
Going forward, stricter regulations are expected to be implemented in markets worldwide. These regulations will focus not only on commercial and light vehicles, such as passenger cars, but also on two-wheeled and off-road vehicles, locomotives and marine transportation, and stationary power.

In addition to reducing harmful emissions of PM and NOx, Clean Diesel solutions meet the growing need to address carbon emissions. We continue to develop and enhance our technologies to provide energy efficient emissions solutions that also lower carbon impact of engines, using either traditional or alternative fuels.
